Chios.
The island claims the third place as to the number of immigrants and refugees that received from the coasts of Turkey. It is estimated that the island was reached by about 100,000 people. The reception infrastructures were quite inadequate for such a large number of people. Only two camps were essentially serving their needs. One was in Souda (an area in the city of Chios) and the other one, known as "VIAL", was located outside the city. Most of the people transferred to this camp were in their majority coming from Afghanistan. Despite the fact that they were not prisoners, they were not allowed to exit the camp.
